For our documentary project, we were asked to find a place in London and find an individual or a group of individuals that live in the city. To find the best place and individuals for our chosen theme, we had to think about different relevant questions. Questions such as the history of the place, why we find it interesting and the function it has and how it fits in the city. For the group of individuals, we had to think about their environment, their significance and how effectively the subject will be portrayed.
Individually, I started thinking about my favourite touristic place in London and then started doing research about different touristic places in London. I started looking at historical and lively places meaning a place where it is usually crowded and where a certain group of individuals can be found. When doing my research, I found interesting places such as the London Eye, Covent Garden, Big Ben etc. I also looked at the different examples that were given by the teacher, which was helpful as it helped me have a clear idea on what we were expected to do.
For the location, we agreed on Southbank from the beginning as it’s the perfect touristic place and one of the most popular paid tourist attractions in London . For the individuals, we decided to interview skaters as we found a known place not far from the London Eye which is called Southbank Skate space.
Before filming, we individually had to think about different questions we would ask the skater about the city , what does skateboarding mean to him and also what the skate scene is like in London.
The day of the filming, we all had different tasks. I was taking pictures of the area , the skaters and pictures of what each person was doing with my phone , which was going to be useful for our individual blogs. For the editing, I helped with the sound and also the brightness of the shots.
